The following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of “Summer Ball” by Vic Cabrera.

★ ★ ★ ★
Summer Ball by Vic Cabrera is a fictional story that centers on three intimate friends, their families, and softball. Childhood friends Monica, Takisha, and Jessie become seniors after much anticipation. However, this comes with teenage problems and the palpable pressure to emerge victorious in different softball games. How do they overcome these challenges without having their friendship threatened? Will they, together with their teammates, triumph in the games? Only the readers of this book can find out.

Summer Ball puts friendship and family and the power they hold as its core message. It is an uplifting plot about teenagers falling in love, preparing for tournaments, and sharing beautiful moments together. Vic Cabrera uses a light-hearted tone, compelling language, and a lively style to portray romance, family love, and good friendship in this book

This book has a lot of positive aspects. The sarcastic tone, light gossip, and the Martinez family argument gave me a good laugh. I couldn’t put the book down because of the upbeat, warming, and amusing appeal. Also, I fell in love with the author’s method of weaving humor through the characters, especially ‘Juanita’ and her accent. The characters were overdramatic yet likable and engaging. This book had consistent pacing that allowed the story to flow seamlessly from the first page to the last.

Furthermore, the lifelong connection and trust between friends, and the bond and relationship in the families, are worthy of emulation. The Martinez dance party in chapter four made me appreciate the author’s definition of a happy home. This book will surely bring a bit of light on a dark day because of the happy scenes. Lastly, the comprehensive explanation of the games gave me an insight into the idea of softball. The author’s account of each character’s activities and the subheadings kept me on track and served as a guide. An appreciated feature of this book is that it had more to cover than its title. I also admired how the author created suspense through subtle conflicts. Despite the absence of villains and violence, this is an entertaining and captivating book.

I do not have anything negative to report about this book. This book was professionally edited, as I noticed very few errors. This is a beautiful and enjoyable story that depicts the impact of true and lasting friendship and the significance of family time. It is a light and quick read suitable for every mood or interest. For these reasons, I do not hesitate to rate this book four out of four stars. I recommend this book to anyone who loves softball and funny books promoting family and friendship.
